Density "p"
What it is
Density is the concentration of matter It is the amount of mass per unit volume
of a substance. Iron has a greater density than wood, and wood has a greater
density than styrofoam. The relative density (Specific density) of a substance
is a measure of how it compares in density to water. The vapor density of a gas
is a measure of how it compares to the density of hydrogen at a particular
pressure and temperature.
History
Archimedes (287-212 BC) determined that a floating body displaced its own weight
and that a submerged body displaced its own volume. Knowing this, he was able to
determine the density of various bodies. According to legend, he used this
technique to determine the amount of gold in a kings crown.
In his theory of General relativity, Albert Einstein (1879-1955) defined the
reciprocal of acceleration as a "radius of curvature" (A field line)
of "space-time". The "radius of curvature" is a vector
orthogonal to the tangent of the acceleration curve of a free falling body. The
reciprocal of the radius of curvature squared is called "surface
curvature" in General Relativity and "pressure" in Newtonian
physics,. Mass density is a function of "surface curvature"
(Pressure). In other words, if you increase the pressure on an object, you
compress it and increase its' density.
